Learn about Dermal Fillers Bristol
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal Fillers are a non-surgical procedure that increases fullness and moisture in the skin. Dermal Fillers are fine injections used in targeted areas to fill out wrinkles and creases in the skin, they are also used to increase volume and definition of the lips and cheeks.
The most common fillers are products that contain hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body which decreases after your mid-twenties. Hyaluronic acid helps to increase volume by adding temporary volume and definition and are sometimes called “hyaluronic acid fillers.” Dermal fillers are not permanent and can last anything from 3 – 24 months dependent on the person and the product used.
Every brand and type of filler gives different results, and your skin care consultant will be able to advise you of these.
How do Dermal Fillers work?
Dermal fillers “fill” space where wrinkle lines and creases appear. The fillers are injected into the middle layer of the skin and work by lessening the appearance of static lines. Dermal fillers stimulate your skin to produce more of its own collagen again and this reduces the lines and lessens the long-term appearance of lines and wrinkles.
There are two types of dermal fillers:
Fillers that when injected immediately plump the skin. Collagen and hyaluronic acid fillers are examples of this type of dermal filler and give immediate improvement after they are injected. These fillers last 3 – 12 months and disappear gradually as the body metabolizes the filler material.
Collagen stimulating fillers. These fillers use particles which cause the body to generate its own collagen when injected. These types of fillers take longer to show the improvements but the results generally last longer.
Why have Dermal Fillers?
If you have fine lines or wrinkles that you want to reduce, you want to increase the volume and definition in your cheeks and lips or you want to generally refresh your skin and its appearance then fillers will work for you.
What areas do Dermal Fillers work on?
Dermal Fillers treat a range of skin concerns, including; reduced volume and fine to deep wrinkles and folds, also including; smile, marionette and lipstick lines, lines on the corners of the mouth, eyes, chin, neck, décolletage and hands.
Dermal fillers subtly smooth, soften, contour and tone the skin, restoring youthful plumpness, enhancing and defining your features.
Dermafillers are also effective for increasing fullness to narrow lips, restoring your beautiful smile, enhancing sunken cheeks and can even be used to contour the bridge of the nose.
How long do Derma Fillers last?
Depending on the type of filler, and the effect you are looking for Dermal Fillers can last anywhere from 3 months to 2 years.
What happens during the Derma Filler Treatment?
A Dermal Fillers treatment involves injecting a medically developed solution under the skin with a very fine needle. The areas in which the filler is injected is dependent on the result you are looking for, they will enhance facial features, increase volume, fill lines, grooves or sunken areas.
Extremely fine needles are used and a numbing cream can be applied beforehand if you are concerned.
What are the benefits of Dermal Fillers?
- Dermal fillers will reduce fine lines and wrinkles, increase the volume that has reduced over the years and define facial features without surgical treatment
- The treatment is done in approximately an hour, depending on the number of areas you are targeting
- You can go back to your daily life immediately after as it is a non-surgical treatment
- It is a relatively painless treatment as the needles used are extremely fine and a numbing cream can be applied before the treatment
- Dermal fillers give your skin a refreshed and rejuvenated tone and feel and can last anything up to 2 years
- You can have one area of your face treated and if you are happy with it then you can go back for more. You get charged for the amount of filler used and how many areas are being treated so there are no hospital care or anaesthetic costs
What are the risks of Dermal Fillers?
The risks of dermal fillers are minimal. Be really clear about the result you are looking for and always remember less is more. You can always go back for another treatment when you have seen how they have worked for you.
You can get some very slight bruising after the treatment but this is not always the case and your doctor will talk you through how you can prevent this before your fillers and how to treat it after, so there is minimal impact.
What should you look for when considering Dermal Fillers?
- The most important thing for you is to find a medically trained consultant that specialises in facial aesthetics. Research is so important when you are considering dermal fillers
- Clinics which offer a free and no obligation consultation appointment. A good clinic will not charge for a consultation and will never push you to make an appointment
- Write your questions down beforehand so you don’t forget anything
- During your consultation ask to see before and after photos of previous patients so you can see the work they have done and the results
- Ask how often the doctor does filler treatments
- During the meeting, they should review your medical history and discuss your aims with you. If they can easily answer your questions it is a sign they are familiar and confident with the treatment procedure
- They should tell you how to prepare for the treatment, do’s and don’ts and what to expect during and after, along with any side effects
- Good doctors will ask you to keep in touch with them after the treatment to see how it has worked and how you are feeling about the results
- You should feel comfortable and confident with the consultant who will be carrying out the treatment. If you don’t then it is advisable to find someone else. Always make sure the person who conducts the consultation will be the one doing your treatment
- After your consultation appointment, research the clinic and the doctor carrying out the treatment. Don’t just rely on reviews from their customers on their own website, as these may not always give you a true picture of their customer’s feedback
- Look at other clinic’s treatments, reviews and prices as a comparison, and be aware that often you will pay more for someone with a lot of experience and proven results

The fillers can be used individually or in combination to tailor an aesthetic result for each patient, depending on the skin’s structural and functional needs.
The Results
Lines and wrinkles are smoothed out and the skin appears plumper and younger. Areas lacking in volume and shape will have more definition with a fuller appearance.
Our Dermal Fillers are a popular treatment for wrinkles and facial lines and our procedure helps to ‘fill out’ and smooth away troublesome:
- Nose to mouth grooves
- Forehead lines
- Frown furrows
- Lipstick lines
- Acne pits
- Crows feet
Our Dermal Fillers are also effective for increasing fullness to narrow lips, restoring your beautiful smile, enhancing sunken cheeks and can even be used to contour the bridge of the nose.
Skin Forever Youngs dermal filler injections consist of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid which helps to replace the reduced amounts of dermal tissue present in the ageing skin. Hyaluronic acid, a natural component of dermal tissue, helps to bind moisture in the skin which is something we lose over time. Our dermal fillers are a safe product for reshaping the contours of the face without surgery.
Downtime
There is no downtime, you can go back to work immediately after your treatment with us and you can apply make-up over the treated area.
What should I do before having Dermal Fillers?
Our dermal fillers can be used immediately, without preparation. We recommend patients ensure they always go to a reputable clinic. Ask who will be performing the treatment and how much experience they have. We believe that only healthcare professionals should be allowed to inject dermal fillers. Ask what type of fillers they will be using, whether permanent or temporary, so that you are able to make an informed choice. In our opinion, temporary fillers are safer and the results more predictable. Finally, if they use a brand you don’t recognise, ask for more information on the company producing them. We only use reputable suppliers and brands, such as Galderma for Juvéderm, Merz for Belotero and Radiesse and only products with high safety standards and which are long established.
What does our Dermal Filler treatment involve?
Small amounts of dermal filler are injected directly into the skin using an ultrafine needle. The gel helps to plump the skin, smoothing out lines and wrinkles. If the lips or facial contours are being treated, the filler adds volume, restores shape and gives a fuller appearance. Our policy is ‘less is more’ so we will always aim to give you a natural and subtle look.
Does the Dermal Filler treatment hurt?
Our Dermal Fillers are comparatively inexpensive, safe, relatively painless, hypoallergenic, and long-lasting. The dermal fillers include an added anaesthetic, which makes the treatment virtually painless. Lips and nasolabial folds will require a local anaesthetic or dental block. A superficial anaesthetic cream (Lidocaine 5%) is applied to other areas by request and can help to relieve any potential discomfort during the procedure.
How long does the Dermal Filler treatment take?
The length of the treatment will depend on the areas being filled, but generally, the procedure takes around 30 minutes.
How soon will I see the results from the Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers work instantly so you’ll see the results straight away.
How long will the Dermal Filler results last?
The effects will gradually fade but should last between 4 and 13 months depending on the treatment, and you can come back to us for a top up treatment when you feel you need it. If you decide not to continue with the injections the gel will biodegrade into the skin and will naturally disappear.
Are there any side effects of Dermal Fillers?
There will be some redness, tenderness and swelling around the treated area immediately after the injection. You might also feel an itching sensation. All side effects should subside after a couple of hours.
Post-treatment you may experience any of the following; mild swelling, redness, slight discomfort, tenderness or bruising at the injection site. We recommend homoeopathic Arnica 7 days prior to treatment for those who bruise easily. If you suffer from cold sores we advise the use of topical acyclovir (Zovirax) 7 days pre and post-treatment.
