All you need to know about Lip Fillers in Bristol
What are Lip Fillers or Lip Enhancement?
Lip Fillers are a non-surgical procedure that aims to increase fullness and moisture in the skin.
Lip fillers are a non-cosmetic procedure that can give you fuller, plumper lips and more defined lips. There are many types of dermal fillers that can be used to be injected into your lips and around your mouth and the most common are products that contain hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body which helps increase volume by adding temporary volume and definition. These types of dermal fillers are sometimes called “hyaluronic acid fillers.” Lip fillers are not permanent and they can last anything from 3 – 12 months depending on the person, the result they are looking for and the product brand used.
Every brand and type of filler can give different results and effects, and your skin care consultant will be able to advise you of these.
As we age, our skin inevitably loses its youthful appearance due to the production of our natural dermal volumisers and moisturisers such as hyaluronic acid (HA) diminishing, leaving lines and wrinkles where our skin once was youthful, even and radiant. Today, the signs and symptoms of the natural ageing process can be reduced by replacing lost hyaluronic acid in facial areas including lips and hands.
What should you look for when considering Lip Fillers?
- Be careful and do your research. The most important thing is to find a medically trained consultant that specialises in facial aesthetics who can show you results from their existing patients
- Arrange a consultation appointment with them at their clinic and ask lots of questions, it’s always a good idea to write your questions down beforehand so you don’t forget anything. A good clinic will not charge for a consultation and will never push you to make an appointment
- During your consultation ask to see before and after photos of previous patients so you can see if their work is what you are looking for. Some clinics will go for the fuller pouty, enhanced look and others will be more about the definition and you achieving a natural looking result
- Ask how often the doctor does the lip filler treatments as the more they do, the more expertise they will have in the procedure
- During the meeting, they should review your medical history and discuss your goals with you. If they can easily answer your questions it is a sign they are familiar and confident with the treatment procedure
- They should tell you how to prepare for the treatment, do’s and don’ts and what to expect during and after, including any side effects
- Good doctors will ask for you to keep in touch with them after the procedure to see how you are feeling about your treatment and the results. You should feel comfortable and confident with the consultant who will be carrying out your procedure and if you don’t then it is advisable to find someone else
- Check the person you are having the consultation with will be the one carrying out your treatment if you decide to go ahead
- After your consultation appointment, research the clinic and the doctor. Don’t just rely on reviews from customers on their own website as these may not always give you a true picture of their customer’s experience and results
- Look at other clinic’s treatments, reviews and prices as a comparison and be aware that you will pay more for someone with a good amount of experience and proven results
How do Lip Filler or Lip Enhancement treatments work?
Dermal fillers can be used very effectively on lips to achieve a variety of results. Lip margins can be given more definition or volume can be increased. Very small amounts of dermal filler can be used to achieve a fuller appearance, without a producing a pouting look. Fine lines around the lips, which are known as lipstick lines, can also be removed or reduced with dermal fillers. Fine needles are used to inject the filler into specific areas of your lips to increase fullness and reduce lines around the lips.

How does your skin age?
The way our skin ages and the rate it ages depends on the way we live our lives. Factors such as smoking, stress, poor diet and overexposure to the sun all accelerate the skins ageing process. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVA and UVB radiation from the sun) has the most detrimental effect, resulting in loss of elasticity, fulness, wrinkles, sagging and dehydrated skin.
Healthy young skin contains collagen that gives it volume, flexibility and strength. As part of the ageing process, the skin’s natural collagen breaks down resulting in the loss of facial volume. This loss of elasticity and volume results in wrinkles, facial lines, loss of fullness of lips and skin laxity that rob the skin of its youthful appearance.
Everything you need to know about our Lip Filler treatment
Prior to any filler treatment, we invite our customers in for a free consultation to ensure we find the best solution for you. Lip fillers, made from Hyaluronic Acid are effective for increasing fullness to narrow lips, defining their shape and restoring your beautiful smile.
Lip Fillers consist of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid, which helps replace the reduced amounts of dermal tissue present in ageing skin and lips. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of dermal tissue which helps to bind moisture in the lips and give them plumpness and definition which is something we lose over time. Lips fillers are a safe way to reshape the contours of your lips without surgery, and you can go back to work immediately after your treatment.
Lip fillers are safe, relatively painless, hypoallergenic, and long-lasting. Lips fillers will require a local anaesthetic or dental block, making the treatment virtually painless for you.
Lip fillers work instantly so you will see the results straight away, lasting anything up to 24 months, dependent on the results you are looking for. We aim to give every customer a natural look and always advise for you to start with a small amount of filler and come back for a top up at a later date if you feel you need to. If you decide not to continue with lip fillers, the gel biodegrades and naturally disappears.
There may be some redness, tenderness and swelling immediately after the lip filler injection and you may feel an itching sensation, however, all side effects should subside after a couple of hours.
