Professional Facial Peels in Bristol
What is a facial peel?
Facial Peels exfoliate and speed up the cell and skin regeneration by removing the top layer of skin, the epidermis. There are different types of peels and strengths that you can choose from as some peels exfoliate and regenerate the natural skin rejuvenation more than others. Facial peels involve applying a chemical solution to your face, speeding up the natural skin cell regeneration process.
Why would I have a facial peel?
Whether you want a glowing skin or a smoother texture then a peel will do this for you. If you suffer from skincare issues like; acne, congested pores, ageing, hyperpigmentation, post acne scars, rosacea and sensitive skin a peel can definitely help.
Benefits of a facial peel?
As our skin ages, it loses the natural collagen and exfoliation process, making it harder for the skin to regenerate. Some skin imperfections can be the result of sun damage, acne, ageing or a build-up of dead skin cells that clog the pores, resulting in dull, wrinkled, spotty, scarred and patchy skin. A peel can dramatically improve the appearance of your skin on the face, hands, neck and décolletage.
Professional Facial Peels will:
- Stimulate the skin’s natural renewal process
- Regulate skin cell production
- Boost collagen synthesis
- Clean and refresh the skin
- Diminish expression lines and wrinkles
- Slow down the ageing process
- Lighten and even skin tone
- Clean and refresh skin texture
- Relieve skin inflammation and redness o Regulate sebum production
- Remove dead skin cells
- Prevent oily sheen and breakouts
- Speed up the healing process of blemishes
- Sooth problematic areas common to problem-prone skin
Our Skin
The skin has three layers:
1. The epidermis is the outer layer of our skin which provides a waterproof barrier and creates our skin tone. Our skin’s colour is created by special cells called melanocytes, which produce the pigment melanin. Melanocytes are located in the epidermis.
2. The dermis is beneath the epidermis and contains tough connective tissue, hair follicles, and sweat glands
3. The deeper subcutaneous tissue (hypodermis) is made of fat and connective tissues
Skin Types
Normal Skin – Feels comfortable, soft and translucent, with the most favourable balance of oil to water. It has a smooth texture, no visible blemishes or pores, an even tone, is soft, has no dry flaky areas or greasy patches.
Oily Skin – Oily skin is classified by the overproduction of sebum (oil). It has distinctly larger follicles or pores than other skin types and these are visible over the entire face. Due to the overproduction of oil, the skin is usually shiny and is prone to blackheads and spots.
Dry Skin – Feels tight, and it may have dry patches and be flaking, loss of skin tone, broken capillaries and ashen complexion. Pores appear smaller, the skin appears dull, especially on the cheeks and around the eyes and forehead.
Combination Skin – Is most common amongst adults, experiencing the traits of both oily and dry. Most people have symptoms of oily skin along their T-zone, the area encompassing the forehead, nose and chin.
Dehydrated Skin – The skin is rough and coarse, fine dehydration lines may appear. Skin looks very dry but may also be oily and the skin feels tight. Loss of skin tone, broken capillaries and ashen complexion.
Sensitive Skin – Because it’s our body’s largest sensory organ, whether we have sensitive skin or not, we’re built to react to stimuli in our tactile environment.
A professional consultant will assess your skin and talk to you about a treatment plan that will suit your skin to help you achieve the results you are looking for.
Facial peels are brushed on to the face to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new cells in the lower sections of the skin. The aim of a professional peel is to improve the appearance of the skin, reducing age spots, evening out skin tone and much more.
About Facial Peel Treatments
Superficial Facial Peels: The skins cells are removed from the top layer of skin, the epidermis, by leaving the peel on the skin for a few minutes. You will feel a tingling, warm sensation when the peel is applied. Your skin may feel tight for a couple of hours after the treatment and your skin will look fresh and revitalised. You may experience dry skin a few days later as it sheds from the peel. Your consultant should talk you through this and your aftercare at home. Regular treatment is needed to maintain the effects.
Medium Facial Peels: The skin cells are removed from the top and middle layers of skin. Again the peel is left on the skin for a few minutes and often massaged in. You may feel a warm, stinging or slight burning sensation whilst it is on. Your skin may go red in the days afterwards, shed, and it can take up to six weeks for your skin to return to normal. Your consultant should talk you through this and what you need to do as aftercare after your treatment. Treatment is normally needed every 6 – 12 months to maintain the effect.
Deep Facial Peels: A deep peel affects the deeper layers of the skin and is much stronger. You may feel a freezing sensation when the peel is applied and it can be left on the face for 30 minutes or more. You will experience your skin peeling, redness and swelling can last up to two weeks. Skin redness can last up to three months as your skin regenerates its good cells. It is a treatment which has lasting effects, but your consultant will talk you through this.
Risks of Facial Peels
The risks of a skin peel depend on the skin of an individual however they are rare. Your consultant should talk you through all of these as well as the shorter term after effects of your peel. Possible risks could include:
- Darkening or lightening of the skin – this can be permanent
- Cold sores returning if you’ve had these before
- Scarring or an infection – although this is rare
- As it heals, your skin would also be more sensitive to the sun, so you need to use sunscreen for at least a month after treatment.
The consultant carrying out the procedure should advise how you can reduce any risks, side effects and complications and should talk to you about these at length before you start any treatment.
What do I need to think about when choosing where to have a facial peel?
- Everyone’s skin is different and will react in different ways so it’s always recommended you see a recognised specialist before embarking on a professional peel. The most important thing for you is to find a specialist in facial peels. They should be able to show you results from their existing patients.
- Research is so important when you are considering peels as if not done correctly they can cause long-term damage to your skin.
- Arrange a consultation appointment with them at their clinic and ask lots of questions. Write your questions down beforehand so you don’t forget anything.
- A good clinic will not charge for a consultation and will never push you to make an appointment.
- During your consultation ask to see before and after photos of previous patients and ask how often the doctor carries out professional peels. During the meeting, they should review your medical history and discuss your goals with you. If they can easily answer your questions it is a sign they are familiar and confident with the treatment procedure.
- They should tell you how to prepare for the treatment, do’s and don’ts and what to expect during and after, along with any side effects.
- Good doctors will arrange a follow-up appointment and or regular communication after your treatment to check how it has worked and how you are feeling about the results.
- You should understand your skin condition, what a professional peel will achieve and the treatment they are recommending in detail after your consultation.
- You should feel comfortable and confident with the consultant who will be carrying out your procedure if you don’t then it is advisable to find someone else.
- Always make sure the person who conducts the consultation will be the one doing your treatment. After your consultation appointment, research the clinic and the doctor carrying out the treatment. Don’t just rely on reviews from their customers on their own clinic’s website, as these may not always give you a true picture.
- Look at other clinic’s treatments, reviews and prices as a comparison, and be aware that quite often you will pay more for someone with a lot of experience and proven results.
- Always follow the care directions and recommendations from your specialist and never apply ingredients that can irritate your skin post-peel, such as retinol. Your consultant should advise you what products to use and when as your skin recovers.

Before treatment:
It is important to prepare the skin. Before Forever Young peel we offer the intensive course of 3-5 Advanced Bespoke facial plus natural peels as a step of preparing the process that exfoliates, firms and repairs moderate skin conditions. The preparation activates the skin proteins to accelerate the natural peeling process and speed up skin cell’s turnover.
Please inform your practitioner of any change with regards to your medical history i.e. if you are on a course of antibiotics, as this may affect your treatment. Herpes simplex (cold sores) – If you are prone to outbreaks of these, please inform your practitioner before treatment. Men – must shave the two days before and NOT on the day of treatment.
Procedure:
Each of the unique solutions will be carefully applied to the target area (face, neck and décolleté) in turn. Any tingling and hot sensation soon disappears when a cold compress is applied. Some redness and tightness of the skin may also be experienced, and the skin will flake naturally for three days following the procedure.
Downtime:
The recovery time following this treatment takes five to seven days. For the first two days, the skin will look dryer with possibly more wrinkles but it is important to leave it like that and not add moisturiser or wash. On the third day, the skin will start to peel and exclusive creams (Post peel-kit ) must be used to help restore the skin. It’s important not to pull off the peeling skin as beneath the old skin there is a healing process going on. By the fifth day, the skin had lost the flakiness and has become clearer. The depth of many of the wrinkles will have been significantly reduced – some of them will have completely disappeared and the skin tone will have become firmer.
