Professional and Expert Thread Lifts Bristol from HL Cosmetics
What is a Thread Lift Procedure?
A Thread Lift is a non-surgical procedure where special surgical threads are inserted underneath the skin to reposition and lift the facial tissue, resulting in the skin tightening. It is similar to the results achieved by a Surgical Face Lift, although less dramatic and it gives a more natural and youthful look. A thread lift procedure is a convenient, less invasive alternative to a traditional surgical facelift and it is designed for people experiencing the early signs of ageing, including facial sagging, fine lines and wrinkles. A thread lift will not fully remove deep lines and excessive skin sagging and in these cases, surgical facelift results should be explored. Threads are carefully placed under the skin in the place in the areas the structure of the face needs lifting, they support the skin from the inside and are a solution for sagging jowls, cheeks or wrinkles.
Thread Lift Procedures can also be known as a non-surgical facelift, silhouette facelift or a contour lift.
As well as tightening and lifting the face, thread lifts encourage the regeneration and production of your skin’s natural collagen which is something that decreases as we age, they can also minimise unwanted fat deposits that can collect in the jowls and around the eyes.
What problems does a Thread Lift Procedure help?
People in their mid-thirties to forties are ideal candidates for Thread Lifts as the procedure targets areas of the face where the first signs of ageing start to appear. A thread lift can help to lift brow lines, jowls, the neckline, contour and lift the cheeks and remove deep folds in the cheeks known as nasolabial folds. It will also tighten and lift the facial skin and improve the skins overall complexion and plumpness due to the threads encouraging the regeneration and production of the skin’s natural collagen.
Why would you have a Thread Lift Procedure?
The cost of a thread lift procedure is significantly lower than a surgical facelift. There is a difference in the intensity between a surgical facelift and a thread lift, however, a thread lift is perfect for people who are just starting to see the first signs of ageing or if you have fine lines, wrinkles or any facial sagging. A thread lift procedure successfully replaces surgery with minimal appointments and recovery time, as well as minimal pain.
What areas of the face can a Thread Lift help?
Thread lifts can help lift many areas:
- Browline and ‘crow feet lines’
- Jowls
- Lower jaw and chin
- Neckline and décolleté
- Cheeks – contour and increase fullness
- Nose (Ideal for conditions such as nasal flare)
- Nasolabial folds (deep folds at the cheeks)
- Forehead
- Shoulder, hip and stomach areas
How long do Thread Lifts last?
The purpose of a thread procedure is to lift and plump sagging skin. The threads lift the skin in the first instance and stimulate the body’s natural collagen mechanisms that decrease with age, encouraging the body to start producing collagen again that then takes over the lifting and plumping of the skin naturally. The threads used in a thread lift procedure naturally dissolve over time which leaves behind the skins newly built collagen, holding and tightening the tissues naturally, thus reducing the wrinkles and sagging of the skin. The results of a thread lift procedure can be seen immediately and improve over time as the body starts to produce its own collagen again, it varies but results can last up to 18 months for some patients.
What does a Thread Lift Procedure do?
The main component of a thread is PLA (polylactic acid) or PDO (Polydioxanone) and they encourage the body to start or increase its own production of collagen. The Collagen in our skin is the most abundant protein in our bodies and it gives the structure to our skin, bones, muscle and other connective tissues. As you get older your body produces less collagen and this results in fine lines, wrinkles, dry and sagging skin appearing. Collagen improves or maintains skins elasticity, reduces wrinkles and increases our skins moisture content.
Exceptionally fine sutures are inserted into the chosen area at a depth of about 3-5mm where they are anchored in stable positions by your doctor using very light pressure. Absorbable, bidirectional cones attached to the sutures grasp and lift the soft tissue in the skin to reduce any sagging and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The thread sutures naturally dissolve over 12 months and the main component of the threads is biocompatible and is naturally absorbed by the body. It is used in a range of safe medical treatments, ranging from screws for bone fractures to new biodegradable stent trials.
How long does a Thread Lift Treatment take?
A thread lift procedure can take anything from 30-60 minutes. A local anaesthetic cream is used before the threads are inserted to prevent any discomfort during the procedure, however, you can feel slight pulling or tension in your skin during the procedure.
Does a Thread Lift hurt?
Threads are placed under the skin to a depth recommended by your doctor, the deeper the threads are inserted the tighter the pinch or tension you will feel. A thread lift treatment isn’t an invasive procedure and pain is kept to a minimum from the local anaesthetic used. You may feel a tightness in your skin after the procedure and some soreness, however, it is minimal and your doctor will advise you on the over the counter medication you can take to prevent or reduce this.
What can I expect immediately after a Thread Lift Treatment?
You will see the results of a thread lift procedure immediately as the threads start working straight away. Over the next few days and weeks, your skin will feel plumper and more moisturised as your body starts to produce or increase the production of its own collagen again. The increased collagen will make your skin feel brighter and plumper again as well as any fine lines or wrinkles decreasing, giving you a natural younger looking appearance.
Are there any side effects of a Thread Lift Procedure?
Some patients may experience slight bruising or soreness for the first couple of days after the procedure and in some cases, slight depressions, bunching, or irregularity of the skin can appear at the entry points of the sutures, however, this will quickly decrease over a week.
How long does it take for a Thread Face Lift to work?
It can take up to three months for a thread lift procedure to show its full results but you will see improvements immediately after your treatment and these will just improve over time as your body increases its own production of collagen again.
What is the benefit of a Thread Lift Treatment?
A thread lift procedure is minimally invasive and is a walk in, walk out treatment, so there is no need for a hospital stay as there would be for a traditional surgical facelift.
The treatment can take as little as 30 minutes under local anaesthetic and requires no hospital stay after.
A local anaesthetic is used to minimise any pain during the procedure, however, there are no after effects like there would be from a full anaesthetic.
You would go for an initial consultation with your doctor to discuss if thread lifts are suitable for you and if they will give you the results you are looking for, compared to a surgical facelift where you will need a lot of appointments before and after the operation which is very time-consuming.
The side effects and recovery time from thread lifts are minimal compared to the bruising, scarring and recovery time from a surgical facelift, so no one need ever know you have had anything done.
Some patients feel some discomfort during a thread lift procedure with slight swelling, bruising or redness after which subsides on its own after a few days, however, this is significantly less than the after-effects of a surgical facelift.
The sutures used in the treatment are completely biodegradable, meaning they do not need to be removed and your skin will appear naturally fuller over time, even after the sutures have dissolved due to the threads kick-starting your body to increase its own production of collagen.
A thread lift procedure will:
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Lift areas of your face
- Reduce sagging skin
- Give brighter and younger looking skin
What are the risks of a Thread Lift Procedure?
Thread lifts are a minimally invasive procedure and as with any treatment, your safety and final results depend entirely on the skill of the doctor performing it. If you always use an experienced medical practitioner then threads lifts are a highly safe treatment with proven results and success.
Immediately after the treatment some patients may experience some slight swelling, bruising or redness, however, this will subside on its own after a few days. It is best to avoid facial massages, beauty treatments and dental work in the week following treatment. Contact sport and excessive exercise are also not recommended for the first few weeks following treatment, and patients are advised to sleep on their back wherever possible.
There can also be a risk of infection, however, using an experienced and qualified doctor minimises this risk.

Thread Lift Consultation Questions:
Am I suitable for a Threads Lift?
Threads Lifts are normally recommended for those over 30 who are tackling and want to reduce moderate signs of ageing. Suitable patients will be seeking a more dramatic difference than wrinkle injections or fillers but without the trauma of a full facelift. The treatment is suitable for all skin types, but those who are allergic or sensitive to bio-materials are advised to speak to their doctor as the procedure could cause a reaction. Your consultation with us gives you time to disclose any allergies, and Dr Quandt will be able to advise you if the treatment is safe and effective for your needs.
Can Threads Lift be combined with other treatments?
Definitely, yes. The minimal-invasive nature of threads means that it works perfectly alongside some other rejuvenation treatments. A common example is the use of dermal fillers alongside a silhouette lift to help restore volume in shallow areas. Dr Quandt has a friendly approach where she will listen to your concerns and offer you appropriate treatments as well as the benefits and any associated risks.
Do I need to do anything before a Thread Lift?
There is no special preparation required for a thread lift procedure, however, during your consultation, we will fully discuss any previous treatments you may have undergone, any allergies you have and your medical background to ensure the treatment is suitable for you.
